About

As one peruses Seth Rubin’s photographs, he or she becomes immediately immersed in his ability to capture the true human dimension of the moment. Imagery reveals his unmistakable sense of visually representing the emotion of the particular time or setting. The photographs are powerful and yet, miraculously and purposely undefined so as to allow ‘us’ to define their meaning. Cognitively, we relate, ponder, and inquire. Emotionally, we feel, remember, and associate each photo to our own understanding of what the subjects are thinking or feeling. Rubin transforms the subjects’ fleeting ‘moments’ onto his canvas while utilizing his refined talent in eternalizing memories as his brush, ultimately enabling us to resonate in our own special way to the photograph.

Born and raised between the bustling cities of New York and Philadelphia, now world traveler Rubin has dedicated much of the last decade to traveling and living abroad in an effort to expand his breadth of experience and understanding. Rubin’s immersion in the global human experience reveals itself in the soulful emotion of resulting photographs. In the absence of a shared verbal language, Rubin’s imagery communicates expression across borders. Such are his photographs of the ancient Maasai tribes and the HIV/AIDs stricken of Kenya with whom he visited and lived among while documenting the valuable work of the Non-Governmental Organization ICROSS (International Community for the Relief of Starvation and Suffering).

Further capitalizing on such exotic locales, Rubin embraces his love of outdoor and travel photography. From the grand vistas to the intricate details, fine art photographs are created in showcase of the great power and beauty of nature. Through the use of mood evoking light, unique vantage points, and the breath of life, Rubin’s photographs inspire dreamlike reflection, transporting the viewer to that extraordinary time and place. Photographs from the beaches of Africa to the glaciers of New Zealand have been recognized by the likes of National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, and Photo District News. Fine art prints hang from the offices of the Pentagon to the homes of international collectors.

Rubin’s artistic prowess is further complemented by the technical acumen that he garnered working as a scientist for years following college graduation. With a mathematics and computer science university degree, Rubin honed his analytical expertise, developed an acute capacity for problem solving, and cultivated his managerial aptitude. As an undersea acoustics lead test and evaluation analyst, international program representative, and eventually Chief of Naval Operations technical advisor, Rubin’s operational understanding and strong sense of responsibility and teamwork have proven a solid foundation for success as a highly dependable photographer.

When not on the road, Rubin focuses his energy on creating memorable wedding and portrait photographs. With his feet currently planted in Washington, DC, he is rapidly emerging as a highly sought after photographer in the national market. He enjoys meeting new clients and building lasting relationships while working intimately with his subjects to ensure that the photographs uniquely capture each individual’s personalities and desires. With great passion, he revels in the opportunity to memorialize the special moments in one’s life with his own unique vision. He appreciates the timelessness of the present moment and approaches each wedding or shoot with immense respect. Photographing individuals not merely as “subjects”, rather through the eyes of loved ones, Rubin delivers wonderfully heartfelt images. Always conscious of his surroundings and with great anticipation, his work is often admired for his honest and emotional defining moments. Instantaneous moments that prove everlasting – where with each viewing, one is brought back in thought, person, and feeling.

Twelve years ago, Rubin was moved by his former painting professor’s project entitled Another Look where professor Berrisford Booth inspired his students to see the world in a different light. Since that time, he has never looked back, but more often ahead, with a precise delicacy that captures the essence of a moment in time.
