Stacey & Sam: Engaged in Old Town Alexandria

September 3, 2011

Meet Stacey & Sam!

Friendly and reserved, though super fun and a perfect match! We spent a nice spring day exploring Old Town Alexandria as Stacey and Sam introduced Aida and I to hidden picturesque locations. The beautiful weather brought the people out in masses along the docks and up King Street and in this intimate area of Alexandria, we easily mixed up the sea, city, park, and industrial backdrops for a exciting collection of engagement photos highlighting this great day. Wedding photos coming next!

Francine & Kevin: Love Under the Cherry Blossoms

April 25, 2011

Wow, talk about a beautiful day! All the stars aligned for this vibrant engagement shoot . . . the National Mall and Tidal Basin at peak cherry blossom season with the weeping willows lining the adjacent ponds and the sun shining down on the lovely and laid back Francine and Kevin. The couple met randomly one year ago while each visiting DC’s famous Cherry Blossom Festival and here they are one year later, engaged and soon to be married! Francine, Kevin, it was such a pleasure and I wish you the very best for many more happy and healthy years visiting the blossoms!

Big thanks as well to Beth and Kyle for their wonderful assistance throughout the shoot!

Kelly & Craig: The Streets of Georgetown

April 2, 2011

Down Georgetown’s historic trolley-tracked streets began our Sunday funday with Kelly and Craig and Bernese mountain dog, Lacy. Fortunate to have a mild February afternoon, Kelly, Craig, Aida and I kicked off our first shoot of what looks to be a very exciting year leading up to their Oct 1st Baltimore wedding. And so well they did as I asked them to pose on-top short ledges and in the busy streets before sitting down for a well deserved chocolate at Thomas Sweet! And meanwhile, Lacy, the beautiful 10 month old pup, drew her share of attention and smiled pretty for the camera. Ok, that’s a white lie, she smiled pretty for her t-r-e-a-t-s and I happened to catch her licking her lips!

All in all, great times were had and prayers were answered as the day’s clouds broke for a magnificent sunset over the Potomac River, with the Key Bridge and Rosslyn towers illuminating the vibrant skyline.

Kelly, Craig, and Lacy, you guys rock and we look forward to the next shoot!

Casey and Tim: Engagement Photos (Round 1)

October 5, 2010

The National Park service claims that “The [National] Mall is the heart of the Nation’s Capital and of the entire United States of America.” While some may say there’s a big United States out there, there was certainly a lot of heart out there last Sunday! Casey and Tim, engaged to be married in January, came out for a great day of shooting over the endless grass, and show heart they did. A great couple, to befriend and to photograph, they easily created humor, intrigue, and loving expression, all while left to their own devices.

On this fine Sunday afternoon, the weather played its usual “I was beautiful yesterday when you sat inside, so I’ll gladly have my fun with you today.” Never fails. Though after some hesitation, the sun broke through the clouds and called “game on” as Tim and I spoke from across the river. Meeting on the Mall late afternoon, we quickly started within an unobstructed range of the Capitol dome and gradually moved our way towards the Lincoln Memorial, pausing for photographs and outfit changes. (The Mall lends itself nicely to such shoots, offering changing rooms near the foot of the Washington Monument, at the World War II Memorial, and at the Lincoln Memorial.) In addition to its monuments and memorials, the Mall is undoubtedly a unique and picturesque location for a photo shoot with its reflecting pool, tree-lined walks, countless flags, tidal basin, and much more. And as the day grows older and the sun dips lower, its romantic charm is truly exposed.

Despite all the historical significance and beauty abound, a welled dressed couple being photographed will certainly draw their own share of inquisitive eyes. Luckily this Dapper Duo played it cool and remained unfazed by the passing attention, showing me all the playful love I needed for some great images. Near the end of the session, an inquiry even came as to who the celebrity couple was!

Casey, Tim, you guys were fantastic, you’re a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to Round 2, this time with a vibrant Fall foliage backdrop!

And lastly, a special thanks to my lovely, patient, and quick-learning assistant, Aida.

Enjoy!
~
