Casey & Tim: An Academy Affair

February 6, 2011

Talk about one smokin’ hot winter wedding!

From the first time I met with Casey and Tim last June, I grew excited about this awesome couple and about this big day. Since, we’ve shot two engagement portrait sessions, enjoyed several meals and drinks, and all culminating this past weekend in a hugely memorable wedding. From the National Mall to Old Town Alexandria and now to the Annapolis Naval Academy for the wedding, my and Aida’s time with Casey and Tim has been nothing short of wonderful. Always smiling and excited, cool and composed, it’s hard to take a bad picture of these two!

Naval Academy graduate, Tim, and his fiance Casey returned to the Naval Chapel for this special day, re-uniting with Tim’s closest Academy shipmates. Fond memories were recalled as they walked the campus. As family and friends traveled through the snow from the Northeast and from as far as California to help make this day, this weekend, as amazing as it was.

Festivities kicked off Friday with the rehearsal, followed by dinner at the Severn Inn, with beautiful views of the Academy and the Severn River. Good laughs, flowing drinks, surf & turf, and heartfelt speeches made for a great kick-off to the weekend.

Saturday started early with the girls at the historic Governor Calvert House, as they shared embarrassing stories laughing around the round table and rotating in and out with Baltimore Bridal Hair & Make-up. The groomsmen hit the streets for a campus run and allotted a generous ten minutes to get ready as Aida and I arrived just in time to fire off a few shots before jumping on the trolley to the chapel with the girls. And onto the ceremony in the massive radiating chapel, portraits in the similarly impressive Bancroft Hall (actually the largest single dormitory in the world with 4000 midshipmen), and eventually back to the Governor Calvert House for an ever exciting evening! Casey planned a photographic dream with a dimly candle-lit dining room with three long tables, ceiling drapery and handmade paper-machete hanging ornaments, and the Calvert party room with its brick walls and street lights… reminiscent of a small historic town center. And enter Go Go Gadjet . . . awesome! Rarely a wedding band, these young guys had the entire wedding, young and old, dancing their shoes and ties off, trailing their glow-sticks, and singing along to each favorite cover tune. And all the meanwhile, the drinks poured and the retired Navy Seals partied like they once trained . . . without compromise. All in all, one helluva wedding! . . . And with the cameras left behind, after-party at O’Brien’s!

Sunday brunch buffet at Buddy’s Crabs and Ribs was solid . . . a much needed feed after a big night. And following, tough to say goodbye to all the wonderful family and friends whom it was so nice to have met and gotten to know. All the little nephews, and niece Charlotte, were good fun and great to photograph. And the wedding party . . . a big shout-out to the wedding party! Kelly H, Codey, Erin, Kelly B, Kristen, Meg, Jon, Bobby, Aaron, and Jeff – it was a real pleasure meeting and partying with you all . . . you no doubt helped make the weekend as brilliant as it was. And a special thanks to best-man and Tim’s White Canvas Group business partner, Jon, who was always there at the right time offering to lend a helpful hand.

And without further adieu, thank you to those who are still reading and here’s a first glance! Plenty more photos to come, but in the meanwhile . . . Casey, Tim, wishing you a very happy honeymoon!!
